Book Title: The Giver
Author: Lois Lowry
Length: 179 pages
Brief Description (back of the book): Jonas's world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now it's time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.
Why I recommend it: This book allows the individual to open his/her mind to a world never before seen. Allows you to think out of the context of a normalized society and puts you in a position to question and contemplate what kind of society would benefit the world. A very short read that is difficult to get into at first but once you get through the first quarter you won't want to put it down.
Do I have a copy others can borrow: Yes
